I bought a hat last week, and it’s a bit unusual. I got it from Buffalo Exchange (as I mentioned in a previous post) and it’s called a “deerstalker,” better known as a “Sherlock hat.”
I have to say I kind of fell in love with it at the store, and it’s not so much the double brim (front and back) but the color combination. The girl at the store described it as a “psychedelic Sherlock hat.” Which, of course, encouraged me to want it that much more.
I have to say I was a bit nervous to wear it out Friday. Not because it’s really THAT unusual. but more so because it’s really different from what people around me generally wear. But, I love the hat and I felt super cute in it.
Of course I got a lot of comments, ranging from “have you found the murderer yet?” to “what’s the mystery to solve today?” but they were all in good fun, and I got a lot of heartfelt compliments too.
The whole experience made me think a lot about my fashion choices as of late. I’ve always been a bit out there with my style choices, but recently I’ve been wearing my more eclectic looks to my more everyday events: work, family events, shopping, etc…
I figure, I talk a lot about being happy with who I am, why not show that I am also happy with my sense of style? If someone doesn’t like me because of a hat I wear, then are they really worth spending time with? And if I can’t take a joke every so often, then I really need a thicker skin.
So yea, I love my Sherlock hat, and if you don’t, you can sod off 🙂
